We reached out to Austin Coins & Jewelry hoping to set up an appointment, since they say they’re appointment-only. We were actually glad to see they’re veteran-owned—that gave us a good first impression. But instead of offering a time to come in, we were asked to send pictures first so they could see if it was “worth their time.” That wording already felt a little off, but we sent clear photos of a vintage ring with five small diamonds.
After some delay, they said they had to send the photos to “their guy,” and eventually came back with a $15 offer—without ever seeing the ring in person. They said the only value was in the gold.
After doing our own research, it’s clear the 5 stones together are worth at least a bit more. The whole exchange felt dismissive and impersonal, especially considering their strong reviews and the pride they show in being a veteran-owned business.
We never even made it in the door, and honestly, we won’t be going in.
